Google Introduces Gemini AI for Kids — With Parental Controls Built In
Google is set to roll out a kid-friendly version of its Gemini AI chatbot for children under 13. This version will only be accessible through devices managed with Family Link, which allows parents to set up and supervise their child’s Google account. While Google assures that it won’t use children’s data to train Gemini and has added content filters, it admits the filters aren’t foolproof.
Parents will have the option to fully disable Gemini if they prefer. Kids will be able to use the chatbot to ask questions, get help with homework, and even create stories. However, Google emphasizes that Gemini may still make mistakes and encourages parents to guide their children in thinking critically about the chatbot’s responses.
Despite efforts to limit inappropriate content, Google acknowledges that some undesired material may still slip through. The company advises parents to remind children not to share sensitive or personal information and to understand that Gemini is not human.
