Google Home Update Brings Smarter Automations and Expanded Device Support

Google Home Update Brings Smarter Automations and Expanded Device Support

As part of its latest update, Google Home is rolling out smarter, more precise automation tools that make managing your smart home easier than ever. Users can now create automations with fewer taps and more control conditions — including presence sensing as a trigger. The update also improves camera history playback in the Google Home app, with a familiar YouTube-style double-tap to skip 10 seconds forward or back. This feature helps users navigate recordings more smoothly and efficiently.

Enhanced Controls and Safety Features Across Devices
Google Home is also expanding support for new smart devices, including third-party Matter-compatible locks. This allows users to manage access, create guest profiles, and receive lock notifications directly from the app. Nest Protect integration introduces a new smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring experience, with real-time alerts and safety checks. On Google TV, picture-in-picture support now lets Nest Cam users view live feeds while watching other content. Meanwhile, Google Home Labs testers will soon gain access to a new Home Summary widget, providing a quick, glanceable overview of recent device activity and key controls.
